Australian researchers are investigating forage management strategies that are resilient to climatic and economic variability. There has been a large uptake of home-grown forages because of this work. Researchers of the C4Milk project are looking at alternative home-grown forages, combination forages, improved agronomic management and harvest techniques that reduce farmers’ reliance on purchased grains and concentrates and improve the quality and quantity of feed grown.
