Russia has experienced a boom in growth in cheese production since 2014 when European food was barred from the country’s market. Further development prospects, however, look vague, as the demand on the domestic market is largely constrained by poverty. The Russian union of dairy producers, Soyuzmoloko, estimated that Russian cheese production quadrupled since the food embargo reaching 47 billion roubles (US$600 million).
